February 2005

"Partnering to Impact Eternity " Update

Church Planting

God is helping us once again to plant

churches in the PNW Conference.

Please continue to pray for our church

plants, the core groups and our church

planters and their families.

The Lakes church plant launch—Pastor

Doug Murren reports that their commit-

ted group is at least 65 now and they are

seeing several visitors a week and build-ing steam.

Word of Hope (White Center) church

plant—Pastor Sara Schoenhals says“ We continue to move forward in awe

and expectancy of God’s moving in

White Center -- celebrating our first con- version this week and looking ahead

toward our premier service on Easter

morning”

Smokey Point— God’s hand has been

very apparent in the pieces coming to-gether for a church plant in Smokey

Point. This new church, planted out of

the Marysville FMC continues on course

to the launching point. Please pray for

prospective church planter Rick Terry

who recently suffered a very serious

medical condition.

Wenatchee Spanish-speaking congre-

gation— A brand new church plant is

being formed out of WFMC with Pastor

Horacio Ahumada (Sunnyside FMC).

Local Church Revitalization

Revitalization Consultant Supt.

Whitehead has asked Pastor David

Banks (Lakeview) to lead a new initiative

in 2005 as a consultant in church revitali-

zation. Having strong leadership in this

area is a significant step in the

"Partnering" plan.

NCD Coaches In September, 10 con-

ference leaders received training to be-

come Natural Church Development

Coaches for our churches.

Leadership Events Nine PNWC pas-

tors attended denomination-sponsored,

conference-funded leadership events in

January.

(1) 600+ Senior Pastors Event—Gary

Gonzales (TimberLake) and Robert

Legg (Lakeside).

(2) Multiplying Pastors Event—David

Banks (Lakeview), David Lindner

(Longview), Paul Olver (Rainier Ave-

nue), and Vic Rodriguez (Marysville).

(3) Emerging Leaders Forum— Shon

Bentley (Oroville), Joshua Brooks (Warm

Beach), and Sara Schoenhals (White

Center).

the key training person for PNWC Past-

ors Day on February 15.

Ministry to the Poor

Rainier Avenue " By Faith"  Initiative

We continue to be so thankful for God’s

blessing and help in the campaign. To

date around $700,000 has been raised

from all sources. The next important

steps are the completion of the detailed

design drawings and ongoing fund rais-

ing. Please join us in praying for God’s

specific direction and help. See the "By

Faith" link at pnwc.org.

Stories From Our Churches

Northern Peaks in Sedro-Woolley is

excited about growth they are seeing

including: 3 Adults and 2 youth baptized

and 20 new members received in Janu-

ary; small groups doubled as a result of

the 40 Days of Purpose campaign; the

youth group has outgrown the youth

center (they average 45 - 50 kids); a

new children’s ministry is going well; and

the church doubled their missions goal.

for 2005.

       Baptism at Sedro-Woolley

Cooks Hill Community saw the com-

pletion of an 18,000 square foot ministry

center addition which more than doubled

the existing facility. They had their first

service in the ministry center in Novem-

ber and will celebrate with a dedication

weekend April 9 & 10.

    Cooks Hill Ministry Center project

Longview Free Methodist Church has

begun a ministry to a low income apart-

ment complex. This fall the Church pro-

vided school supplies for 25 children as

well as providing food for a Thanksgiving

Dinner for tenants that didn't have any-

where to go. The church has also spon-

sored a coat drive and has worked with

the manager to help one homeless

mother get set up in an apartment and

regain custody of her son. The manager

and owner are both overwhelmed by the

support.

Lynnwood Church started an AWANA

program in the fall to reach out to chil-

dren and families in our community.

They only had two or three children in

that age group before they started, but

have been running about 25 children in

the Wednesday evening children’s pro-

gram. An unexpected, but very wel-

come, benefit has been the growth of

their youth group from four to an average

of about 12 - nearly all from families that

also participate in the children’s program.

Mountain Creek in Issaquah Compas-

sion House ministry just received a dona-

tion of two city lots in downtown Issa-

quah. The city has given them an historic

house that was unfortunately scheduled

for demolition. Rather than demolish it,

they contributed the money earmarked

for that project to help move the house

onto church-owned property. The next

phase includes expanding it into a duplex

that will house two families. Then they

will build another duplex on the adjacent

lot to house another two families. The

Master Builder's organization is consider-

Ing taking on this project.

Compassion House on the move!

Rainier Avenue Church has opened

MEKONG Learning Center, a computer

lab with tutors and curriculum to serve 15

4th-8th grade Southeast Asian students

4 days a week. The focus is on helping

students who are behind get back to

grade level on the WASL test. Students’

families join church families and tutors

for a meal on Friday evenings. Rainier

Avenue Church is excited about the po-

tential to encourage people to become

whole in Jesus Christ through this out-reach.

Kickoff for MEKONG Learning Center

Missions Giving from PNWC churches

was “over the top”! The goal for 2004

was 407,250. You gave 446,747. Your

generosity provided for FM missionaries

and contributed significantly to spreading

the good news of reconciliation with God

to those hungry to hear. Thank you for

giving to the Lord!
